Fellow riders, past riders, volunteers and friends of the Cedars Cancer Ride for Hope

The last year and a half have seen challenges we could never have imagined. We have all dealt with these challenges in our own way and in the case of the Cedars Ride for Hope, we have made a valiant attempt to keep the tradition of this ride alive. The obstacles we have endured have not been easy, and we continue to find ourselves climbing walls which threaten to hinder the spirit of hope, and gratitude.

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming ride on September 25th due to a plethora of obstacles that present themselves so close to the ride weekend. I am writing to you all with a heavy heart but with the promise that my mission from day one has been to mount an exceptional weekend for the riders all the while raising important research money for a burgeoning cause. I felt at this juncture I could not keep that commitment to you without the ride suffering to a large degree.

The circumstances of the last year, COVID restrictions, the delta variant, some expressed medical views, attempts to reschedule the ride in hopes that the current climate would ease and an overall sense of unease on the part of many led us to our heartbreaking decision. I hope you can all understand this decision knowing that we do not want to short change nor undermine the spirit of what we are trying to achieve.

Having said the above, we will now shift our focus towards 2022 and with a year to plan ahead, I can assure you that we can make next year's ride better than ever before. Fall 2022, the journey will continue!

For those who have already registered, please contact Anna Burgos at anna.burgos@cedarscancer.ca to arrange reimbursement of your fees. For those who have already begun your fundraising, please know we appreciate every dollar raised and that the Cell Therapy Initiative still desperately needs resources to forward their work.

On a personal note, I still plan on making a fundraising commitment to the cause this year as the needs are always present.

I would like to personally thank Ian Aitkin and Pembroke Wealth Management for their commitment to the ride. We had a stunning jersey made this year, and will be proudly wearing it next year when the ride resumes. Ian and his team were instrumental in their financial commitment to this ride as our major sponsor and sponsor of the team jersey.

When we come thorough this unique period of our lives together, I hope you can all join me next year in celebration of a great cause. I pledge on my part to bring you a most exceptional experience under the right circumstances.

With heartfelt thanks and gratitude,

Rob Callard Chair, Cedars Cancer Ride for Hope

WHY DO WE RIDE?
The mission of this ride is to raise funds for the creation of a new Cell Therapy Unit under the direction of Dr.Pierre Laneuville of the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal QC., administered through the Cedars Cancer Foundation. By establishing this unit, doctors, researchers and patients will benefit from this promising and burgeoning area of research in the fight against cancer.

It’s not just a ride, it’s a journey.
