On September 7th, 2019 I will be taking part in the 14th Annual Cedars CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for CanSupport, who provide free, supportive care to cancer patients and their families at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) Cedars Cancer Centre.
I have decided to dedicate my time to this event and help raise awareness because I hold this cause close to my heart. In recent years, my mom has gone through many treatments to fight off cervical as well as thyroid cancer in the same year. It was an emotionally challenging time for my family which in the end pulled us together. She stayed strong, good-humored and never showed weakness. I look up to her for her courage to have fought whatever had been thrown her way even as she was devotedly caring for my autistic sister.
My mom is my hero. I love more since she has won the two battles she had to face. She has shown me how precious life is and how to enjoy every second of it. Laughing at nonsense and finding the silver lining are my daily focuses.
I along with my team and will be training this summer to improve their techniques, synchronization, power strokes, and overall dragon boating team technique so that we will be victorious on Race Day in both their racing and fundraising efforts.
Cedars CanSupport is a program at the MUHC, Cedars Cancer Centre. In collaboration with the healthcare team, Cedars CanSupport provides complementary support complimenting conventional treatment, improving the quality of life of cancer patients and their families. CanSupport is comprised of professional staff and trained volunteers all with the shared goal of providing emotional support, education services, complementary therapies, and practical resources to cancer patients and their support networks.
We hope you will help to support us and cheer us on at the beautiful Promenade Pére Marquette in Lachine on Saturday, September 7th.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration and generosity.
