Alexandra Allen on behalf of Lori Hyland-MacDonald & Camille Caucci
Imagine someone in your family is diagnosed with cancer. Beyond the trauma of dealing with the diagnosis, you and your loved ones may be faced with serious financial hardship. That's the reality for far too many people. Cedars CanSupport, a division of the Cedars Cancer Foundation, is working to change that. CanSupport provides free psychological, emotional, practical and financial support to cancer patients and their families being treated at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
In order to raise awareness and much needed funds for this incredible organization, I will proudly be participating in the 12th Annual Cedars CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival on September 9th. I’m paddling on behalf of two very special people: My incredible aunt, Lori Hyland-MacDonald, whose strength of character and love of life continue to inspire me every day; and my hilarious uncle, Camille Caucci, whose generous spirit and brilliant "one-liners" make me smile every time I think of him. Lori and Camille faced strenuous battles with breast cancer and throat cancer, respectively, and I am eternally grateful for their loving families and friends who supported them throughout their journeys. I know they would want others to have a similar support system, and that's why I'm participating in this event to help grow the CanSupport community.
I recently had a tour of the MUHC and was blown away by the quality of care manifested through cutting-edge technology, and a variety of social services. I also heard from survivors how important CanSupport services and activities have been to them throughout their battles. Whether it's attending a painting class for art therapy, or using massage therapy for temporary relief of pain and anxiety, CanSupport offers patients a concrete form of moral support every step of the way.
With that in mind, our Dragon Boat team has been training hard this summer to improve our synchronization, power strokes, and overall technique to put our best foot forward in both our racing and fundraising efforts.
Along with our spokespeople Alexia & Anthony Calvillo of the Montreal Alouettes, we will be out paddling rain or shine on Saturday, September 9th at Promenade Père-Marquette in Lachine.
Please support this cause and know that your donation will help ease another person’s worries during a very difficult time. Together we can build a support system for those who need it most. This incredible event will see all monies raised go directly to patients and their families, and tax receipts will be issued for all donations over $20.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration and generosity. It means a lot to me!
